Piper Process Systems uses liquid ring compressors (LRC) which are a rugged and reliable method for managing highly toxic, explosive and corrosive gasses. They are ideal for recovering flare gases, tank produced gases and solvents.

Liquid Ring Compressors

LR compressors provide significant advantages that lead to a high ROI over the long term. They offer maximum reliability, operating time and production results when used in the recovery of vapors from storage tanks or in the recovery of well head gasses from depleting wells.

Unlike all other compressors, the liquid ring machine has no touching internal parts. They can compress;

  • Dry and wet chlorines
  • Ethylene
  • Condensable, non-condensable gases.

At Piper Processing we have found that this is a significant advantage when used to recover sweet or sour gasses that contain Co2 and solid particulates such as ashphaltenes. They are particularly efficient in a SAG-D application where dirty gas is processed.

Operating Applications

LRCs are ideal for applications where the recovery process operates in a “vacuum” or a few ounces above atmospheric pressure. Gas is compressed using a single or two stage machine up to a range of 100-200PSI.

This is a significant advantage for single pump applications that otherwise require managing the gases with two separate machines.

How it Works

The liquid ring compressor uses cooled-ring water combined with the internal dynamics of the rotor to create compression. This unique compression design not only creates an increase in pressure, but it does so with very little temperature increase to the gasses.

This reduces condensing within the pump casing and ensures a more stabilized gas during the compression cycle. Therefore, there is very little temperature increase between the suction inlet and discharged gases.

In a full recycled system, the ring water is cooled through plate and frame coolers and recycled for repeated use. A variety of liquids can be used for the ring-seal such as water, oil or diesel fuel.

Low Maintenance

The liquid ring machine has only one rotating part. That fact alone makes it more efficient and easily maintained than competitive compressors.

LRCs operating requirements are very simple. They require no oil to lubricate the internal moving part. They can handle liquid carry-over and fluctuating inlet pressures without affecting pump performance.
